  1. Saying Ireland is in the British Isles is about as obnoxious as trying to insist that Ukraine is on the Russian Steppe. Though as of mid 2025 there are indeed people trying to insist on that too.

Ireland is not in the British Isles. It’s not a geographical term.

    1. Thank you, I realize that Ireland is not a part of the British Isles, but this is a map not of the British Isles as determined politically, but as a part of a curriculum where there is a song called “The British Isles” from the “Geography Songs” by Kathy Troxel (https://amzn.to/42hE8pG). This map is specifically designed to highlight areas mentioned in the song, and was only created for that purpose. The song does start out introducing “The United Kingdom is Northern Ireland, and England and Scotland and Wales….” And, in the song, it mentions Ireland by saying “On the west coast of Britain is Ireland, also called the Emerald Isle. The capital of Ireland is Dublin; it became a republic in 1949. But when children are singing the song, they will be pointing to Ireland as a part of the process of identifying locations mentioned in the song. The lesson does specify that Ireland is not a part of the British Isles, but this map is still useful for the song.
